Navigating the Mundane with Magick: A Witch's Survival Guide

Sometimes, the contradiction between our inner world—full of magick, intuition, and connection with the universe—and the daily grind can feel like a cruel joke. One moment, you're charging your crystals under the full moon, and the next, you're answering emails from someone who thinks 'optimization' is an actual personality trait.

Society doesn’t exactly cater to our witchy ways. Nature? Undervalued. Animals? Exploited. Equality? Still a work in progress. And yet, here we are, needing to make money, possibly stuck in a job that makes us feel like we're cosplaying as a corporate automaton. I don’t have the solution to build our dream society (mine includes wildflower parks, vegetable gardens on every corner, and a world where dress codes are abolished). But I do have some magickal tricks to help you survive the daily chaos with your energy intact.

Start Your Day the Witchy Way

Morning Magick Rituals
Your day deserves a spark of enchantment before the nonsense begins. My trick? Get the boring morning tasks done as fast as humanly possible, then sink into a moment of joy—like sipping coffee while watching a pick-a-card reading. If you’re into glamour magick, make your self-care routine a spell: nail polish for confidence, statement earrings as a reminder of your true self, perfume as an aura shield. Whatever works for you, own it.

Choose Your Crystal Armor
Even if you're not physically going anywhere, your energy is. And it needs protection.

  • Need protection? Black obsidian is a force field against bad vibes. Perfect if you're doomscrolling or dealing with chaotic online interactions. If obsidian feels too intense, onyx is a gentler alternative.
  • Struggling with connection? Rose quartz softens your energy and attracts kind interactions (or at least makes people slightly less insufferable).
  • Want sharper intuition? Amethyst is your go-to. Your day is full of tiny choices—why not have a crystal that keeps you aligned with your inner wisdom? Bonus: as the sobriety stone, it’ll help you take only one glass of wine after work, not twenty.
  • Boost any of the above? Clear quartz is like the Wi-Fi extender of magick—it amplifies whatever you need.

Program your crystals with intention, and let them work their subtle wonders while you pretend to be a functioning adult.

Commuting Like a Witch (Even If It’s Just to the Couch)

Just because you work from home doesn’t mean you don’t deal with external energy. The digital world is its own kind of psychic swamp. Whether you're moving from your bed to your desk or actually stepping outside, here’s how to stay energetically intact:

metro tube commuting
  • Create an energy bubble before engaging with the world. Visualize a shimmering force field around you, keeping negativity out.
  • If you’re really good at energy work, take it up a notch: transmute any bad vibes into something useful—turn stress into motivation, irritation into humor, and pettiness into power.
  • Play an empowering playlist. Channel your inner witchy main character. Bonus points if it’s aggressively mystical.
  • Tune in to a witchy podcast—some of my favorites include Magick and Mediums and The Witch Wave with Pam Grossman.

Make your transition from "home mode" to "work mode" sacred instead of soul-sucking.

Energy Protection Throughout the Day

Dealing with Energy Vampires
That client with the emotional range of a teaspoon just drained your last ounce of patience? A rude email projected someone's personal misery onto you? Don’t let it stick.

working lady
  • Cut the energy cords. Literally swipe your hands down your arms as if you’re brushing off bad vibes. It’s a subtle but powerful reset—yes, this is actually used after magnetism/energy healing. It’s that effective.
  • Remind yourself: Their energy is not yours to carry. Maybe they’re having a bad day. Maybe your opinions on astrology personally offend them. Either way, not your problem. Move on.

Coming Home: Magickal Decompression (Even If You Never Left)

Before you carry the weight of the world into your sacred space, shake it off.

Create a 'Post-Work' Ritual

  • Shower spell: Imagine the water washing away the day’s energy, leaving you refreshed and recharged.
magic bath
  • Clothing cleanse: Change out of your work clothes. Even if it's just from one set of pajamas to another, the act itself signals a shift.
  • Short grounding meditation: Even five minutes makes a difference.

Fur Babies & Familiars
Or plants. Or whatever makes your space feel alive. If your pet wants love, give them that moment. It’s healing for both of you.

Sharing Space with Others

If you live with people, don’t immediately unload your day’s chaos onto them. Let your decompression rituals do their job first. Otherwise, your relationships turn into a stress dump, and that’s how resentment brews. When you finally talk about your day, it won’t be an emotional purge but a conversation you can actually laugh about.

This is crucial. So many relationships crumble because we use others to process our own crap instead of dealing with it first. Don't be that person.

Life Is Happening Now, Not Just on Weekends

Every moment of your life is still your life. Work, errands, and even scrolling through emails—that’s still time that belongs to you. If you’re constantly longing for the weekend, guess what you’re manifesting? More longing.

Find ways to make even the mundane enjoyable. Romanticize your lunch break. Take pleasure in a well-made cup of tea. Light a candle while you answer emails. Your life isn’t just what happens after work—it’s all of it.

Embrace the Evening, Witch

Your energy is yours again. Enjoy it. Light a candle. Pull a tarot card. Make tea that feels like a potion. Whatever fills your cup—literally or metaphorically—do that.

If these tips help you reclaim your magick throughout the day, let me know! Or, if you have your own daily rituals, share them—I always love discovering new ways to bring witchcraft into the mundane.

Now go make some magick happen.
